Is that from the IGI? I have the same sort of thing for my rellies, but when the PR's were checked, the marriage took place in one of the two parishes, but the banns were read in the marriage parish and the other one!! (as this was where the groom lived). Sarah

Sarah Yes it is from IGI which is why I think they are the same couple. Sarah (if it's mine) she is from Hardingstone Guess it will be a trip to the GRO to confirm either way Thanks Elly

sadly they're all 'contributed' entries In one case it looks like somebody has copied out all the Spencer marriages from the Hardingstone register. Search on the batch number and you'll find the marriages of some of Rebecca's rellies. The others are the usual rubbish. The birth dates are estimated, and the places are probably guessed as well

Elly These marriages will not be recorded at the GRO - they only have events from 1837 onwards. You need to look at the Parish Records. Olde Crone

Personally, I am always worried about IGI entries which state a date but NO CHURCH - if the event has been properly researched, surely the name of the Church where the marriage took place is not too much to expect??? I have found several 'Double Entries' in the Parish Records. I puzzled over it for a long time, but then it dawned - the marriage took place in a sister chapel, usually by the Curate, he recorded it in the record for that chapel, then went back to the mother church and the Vicar there also recorded it. Belt and braces, I suppose, or the right habd not knowing what the left hand was doing. Confusing, though. Olde Crone

I agree, Olde Crone, - maybe the belts and braces thing was to make up for all the times they didn't write the entry in at all, or did it so long after the event they couldn't remember the names of the people involved!! Sarah
