There was only one Hunter Fenwick born in Hartlepool district in the relevant period (1858). In 1880 he married Hannah Haswell. 1881 census has Hunter with wife Ann born 1863 Stranton, West Hartlepool. Okay Ann = Hannah. However, in both subsequent censuses Ann is from Shotton Colliery. I found a Hannah Haswell from Shotton Colliery in 1871 census born 1863. The only problem is she is still with them in 1881. Couldn’t find an Ann Haswell from Stranton or Shotton so she has to be the one. Why is she recorded still at home with her parents in 1881? Beth :)

Perhaps if you got hold of marriage cert, it would have her father's name, which might help clear up the confusion - or add to it!

Montmorency Report 24 Jul 2005 20:18

Hannah was away from home on census night, visiting her parents Her husband misunderstood the instructions, and didn't realise that he was supposed to leave her off the form (this is quite common) But he'd no idea where she was born, and she wasn't there for him to ask Meanwhile, Hannah's parents thought she was in service, somewhere away from home, and had got the weekend off. Being so young, she'd never told them she'd got married...
