Hi, could someone please look at the below message soon and see if this makes sense to anyone else other than me.

My g'g nan was Ellen Wemyss Nicholson. I have been having real trouble locating her and i think i may have found out why. On her marriage Cert her father is Christopher Nicholson and was a glass maker. In 1871 there is a Christopher Wemyss who was a glass blower married to Hannah Wemyss. Also in 1871 there is an Ann Nicholson as head with Eleanor Nicholson (same age as my Ellen would have been) and son William Nicholson (among other children) Hannah died in 1873. Then there is a marriage of Ann Nicholson to Christopher Wemyss in 1880. In 1881 there is then Ann Wemyss, Christopher Wemyss and William Wemyss living together. Does is seem plausible that Ellen is Eleanor and that she then took both names. Ellen married in 1879 before Ann and Christopher did, but it just seems too coincidental to be something else. Anyone else think the same? I have ordered the birth cert of Ellen which i believe is right, but until i get that im just making guesses.

I think I understand what your saying... ie she was one name, but mother married again and she took the 2nd name too? or something like that. My Grandfather was called John Holmes Boyd and was illigitmate. His mother married a Walter Winlow and my Grandad grew us as jackie Winlow (not Boyd) and was even on the 1901 census as John Holmes Winlow son of Walter Winlow, when we know he wasn't. I think they make up the names as they go along. which doesn't help us much.

We have a Henry Simpson Boyes in our tree. IGI says mother Elizabeth Boyes (no father). Three years later Eliz Boyes marries Henry Simpson. After that Henry Simpson Boyes becomes Henry Boyes Simpson!! Also Have several Eleanor/Ellen people in our tree who are one and the same person in each case. Hope that helps Anne
