Can anyone advise how I can find out more about a family who arrived in US in 1890? Trying to find out more about their son, Henry Hugh Howell born 12 February 1890 (apparently born at sea or shortly after arrival in US). He had an older sister Lilian. Any help very much appreciated! Thanks. Natalie |

Natalie, have you seen the posting on FamilySearch.Org? Henry Howell Birth: 12-Feb-1890 Death: Dec 1893 (typo, update: 1983!) Social Security Number: 368-26-3224 State or Territory where number was issued: Michigan Death residence localities: Tennessee I've not done too much American research, but I think he obtained his social security number in Michigan (where he probably was living) and died in Tennessee. The two states are not near each other. I believe you can get information about him through his social security number -- perhaps someone else here might be able to point you in the right direction. |

Lisa Thank you very much for your reply. I had got that information from the LDS site, but hadn't realised the social security number might enable me to trace him further. Henry Howell is my friend's Grandfather, and she has asked me to see what I can find out. I'd be surprised if there was more than one Henry Howell born on that exact same day, but am waiting to hear from her whether the death date and location make sense. Meanwhile, thanks so much for getting in touch. It is very much appreciated. Best wishes Natalie |

It might help if we had your friends parent's name and year of birth to see if we can place them on census and work backwards Beth :) |

There's a form that can be obtained online to fill out and send for a copy of the original form filled out by your ancestor......there was personal information he would have had to fill in ......parents, place of birth, address, etc..... Judy |

Thanks very much everyone. It's the first time I've had to research anyone in US, so I feel like a newbie all over again!! My friend is checking out his parents' names, so hopefully that will move things along a bit. Meanwhile, we are going to send off for the social security details. Many, thanks for helping me out.
