I noticed a post on here a while ago about how to search whole villages on Ancestry. I tried it and it was great but now I can't remember how to do it. Does anyone know? Linda |

Did you mean this: If you are using Ancestry, on their home page select 1901 England census from the list on the left. At the bottom of the next page that opens select the county you are interested in. The next page asks you to select a parish and then that will take you to a page to choose a district. This is where the laborious task of searching through the districts for the street name you require comes in (unless you already know which it is in). Helps to have a street map or good local knowledge of the area. Anyway carry on until you find your street. Then go through page by page until you get the right door number or building name. Hope this is clear enough to work with, Best wishes, Brenda Hope this helps, will nudge original thread for you, Brenda |

You can also: Select correct year required enter in Residence box county required in Civil Parish box enter name of village or civil parish name - leave everything else blank. You will then get in alphabetical order everyone in the village/parish, well this is how I do it. Hope it helps. Jo |

Jo Jo, Thanks for that, I can see that method being really easy and useful for searching. Funny though isn't it - when you see a form to fill in you feel you have to put something in every box. Sometimes, too much info just clouds the issue, I'm forever having to refine my searches. Learning all the time on here though, that's for sure! Thanks again, Brenda |

Glad you found it helpful Brenda, not sure where I got the idea from, probably on here! Certainly would not have worked it out for myself unless it was one of those happy errors when you forget to enter all the details in!!! Something I am always doing. Jo |
