I have at last met up with my long lost Uncle who informed me the Birth cert of my gran(his mother) was a lie it seems she was born to a single lady who was going to marry the father but he never turned up at the church so she let her sister bring the baby up and she was told her mother was her Aunt. On her birth cert her Aunt is named as her mother and she names the father even though they were not married , surely this is illegal .

I don't know whether or not it was illegal for the aunt to name herself as the mother, but if the father went to the register office with the aunt then he could be named even if they were not married. If she said they were married, I would think he could be named whether he was there or not. I don't think anyone asked to see my marriage certificate when I registered my two sons. Kath. x

I thought so too but he never turned up for the wedding so I would be surprised if he turned up for the registration of the birth
