I AM NEW TO FAMILY RESEARCH AND ONLY JUST BECOME MEMBER OF GR. ANY TIPS ON GETTING ANY FURTHER WITH MY TREE. I HAVE TRACED MY MATERNAL GRT GRANDPARENTS BACK TO 1891 BUT THEN THINGS START GETTING VERY CONFUSING. MY GRT GRANDMOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME WAS WRIGHT SHE THEN MARRIED A WRIGHT (PROBABLY A COUSIN) HOW DO I KNOW WHICH FAMILY TO FOLLOW - IT COULD BE HIS OR HER'S. I KNOW THAT AT SOME POINT THE FAMILY INFO WILL OVERLAP. SHE WAS MARRIED TWICE AND I HAVE JUST SENT FOR HER 2ND MARRIAGE CERT HOPING THIS WILL GIVE ME THE NAME OF HER FATHER. I SEEM TO BE DUPLICATED RECORDS

It's a bit of a nightmare when they do that. What do you know about them, that you're positive about?

Janet You will either have to get birth certs to prove parents names or some info is availble on line, such as census or parish christenings often have parents names. If you want help you need to post what you have and others will help you search - highly recommended! Elly

Reply from Janet - sent for my Grandmother's birth cert and showed her father as Thomas, mother also called Wright, traced them back to 1891. Traced back again to 1861 - Thomas 9yrs, Elizabeth 4yrs. Found them then realised they were both in the same house so would have made them brother & sister (don't think that's right!!!!!). Need to start again I think. In 1891 lived in 8 Hackthorpe St, Liverpool where do I go from here? PS - Janet, it's easier if you add a reply to the board as everyone can then see it and help :)

Or is it something else? I guess this is the 1861 that got you puzzled? I have tried for many months to find a marriage between Elizabeth and Thomas, couldn't find one. Must have been looking in the wrong place. Many thanks looking at agnes birth cert it says, x the mark of elizabeth wright, mother, so assumed mother couldn't write and that her maiden name was wright.

The site was familyrelatives*co.uk Could you post whatever it says on the cert about the names? There should be Section 4 - Name and surname of father Section 5 - Name, surname and maiden name of mother Section 6 - Occupation of father The other sections aren't as important at this stage. I presume that your X is in section 7?
