G Gran was given on one census as being born Shrops, another Staffs, confused now, is it her? Or are the 2 places too far apart to make sense? Also she was given as a minor on marriage cert, was that below 21 in 1858? Thanks for your opinion |

The two counties share a long border. Do the census records give a town/village or whatever, as well as a county? Minor? Yes, under 21 in those days! Sarah |

Hi Nelly Have exactly the same with my G Grandmother, Shropshire on one census, Staffordshire on another. Cannot find a birth certificate either, but have reached the conclusion that she was probably born in Staffordshire, but brought up in Shropshire. (Father and grandparents came from Shropshire). Don't you just hate it when they come from near a county border! It's even worse with the ones who keep popping over the border from Scotland to England and then back again! |

Tina it is a real pain, and funny thing the descendants of some of them finished in Cheshire including my Dad |

Hi Nelly Wheaton Aston and Shifnal are only about 7 miles apart so close enough I think - they are on the border of Staffs / Shropshire so I suppose the borders could have shifted over time. Sam x |

I have an 1843 Staffordshire map. At that time Shifnal was in Shropshire and Wheaton Aston in Staffordshire but I think boundaries have changed since then. Ann |

Woolwich was never in Middlesex! Was in Kent until 1889, then London. |
