I know this is a long shot but does anyone know if we are now able to acces lists of children that entered the awful convents in Ireland. My nana was definately in one as she worked in the laundry but we have no idea which one and now there is no-one left to give us any information. Her mother died when she was young and her father moved to England leaving the children behind. If such lists exist where would I find them. Ta Mx

Michelle There was a previous thread about this, entitled I think 'Magdalen Laundries'. As far as I remember, the replies to this indicated that information will only be given out to the person who was actually IN the Laundry - not relatives or descendants, I'm afraid. Incidentally, the Magdalen Laundries werent just in Ireland - there was one in Archway, North London, which didnt close down until the 1980s, and only then because the Laundry was no longer economical to run as most people had washing machines by then. I will see if I can find the thread and bump it up for you. Old Crone
