Might he have been born a Methodist and therefore been baptised into that church? Even if he was a Methodist, in 1833 he would have had to marry in the C of E, as Methodists were not allowed to conduct marriages until after 1837. Sarah

well Colne is in Lancashire , If you want his birth details you will need to check parish registers to find his baptism. This usually states son of 'parents names' & sometime will give his birth date too. depends on what the priest of the parish liked to record in the records. will sometimes too give address at time of baptism. I have some records that give a lot of detail & some that are very sparse. Shirley

I am trying (very hard) to locate the above man. The 1841 census states he was born in the county of lancashire, the 1851 states he was born in colne. I have looked and looked for an entry for the birth or christning of joshua but with no luck. I have found his marriage to sarah dixon in st bartholomews incolne in 1833 and his burial in albert rd methodist chaple colne in 1859. the marriage was by banns and states he was of this parish. can anyone give me any tips at all on how i can now progress. thank you alison
