I got the impression that a cordwainer was considered to be upmarket - because he was skilled enough to be working with such high quality leather. Christine

Definitely a shoemaker........my great great grandfather was one and his father was a shoemaker too.There are cordwainer apprentice records available. Pam H.

Can anybody tell me what an app(rentice) CORDWAINER does please. I can't find it in my usual ref book. Though it's been helpful before. And I know I've either seen or read of this in the past. Many thanks Regards Linda
