SAME OLD GRIPE & TIP ANSWER your emails or messages why cant genes find a way of telling us if our messages are being read I have loads of unanswered messages and its soooooooooooo frustrating I know we can all sometimes miss one but if we knew they had been picked up and no one answers well we know its apathy or rudeness but its not knowing if the message has got through. thanks for reading feel better now sandie |

Sandra I personally object to you saying 'it is apathy or rudeness' if you don't get an answer. Could it not be that nobody has an answer to the question posted. The people on this site donate their own time and quite often money to help others. Even if they do a lookup on Ancestry they have paid out of their own pocket to be able to do that. Are you trying to say that everyone who looks at your post's, even if they cannot help, should reply to that effect?? If this were to happen the site would be bogged down by replies that are of no help to anyone. I would suggest that if you do not like the way people react to your messages that you start to pay for yourself. If I have misunderstood you comments, then I apologise. Victor |

Victor, I think Sandra meant her PM and contacts not the the posts on the Tips or Records Boards. I know what you mean Sandra. We all have the same problem and I agree there should be a way that we know if someone has actually read our messages; it would be very useful. Don't forget tho' that some do not not visit this site regularly like us eager beavers, they could be away or busy having a life outside Genes.LOL Is there one? Katarzyna. |

I know what you mean, but there could be another reason. My membership of GR ran out in May. I tried to renew it three times and then gave up. Since then I've continued to receive messages from other GR members, but haven't been able to respond to them. I've been in two minds about whether to bother with renewing my membership. I've found the site enormously helpful in the past - but now find it unbearably slow and unwieldy, and the whole tortuous message system drives me round the bend. However, I've now given in, paid my dues... and that has enabled me to post a response to your thread. So now, I guess I'd better start replying to all those other messages in my Inbox... |

Did the opposite tonight. Answered a message from May which I hadn't replied to, then found that I actually had at the time! Sorry Alexander, put it down to my age! |

sorry Victor, I didnt make it clear I was referring to personal messages not message boards. I dont often put answers or queries on boards because of the ease of misinterpretation . but I do I hope always answer personal messages sandie |

Sandra. It is quite clear that Victor has the wrong end of the stick, his last words were ' I appologise if i have mis-understood'' or words to that effect. You have typed 'message' , he has 'read' or understood you to mean thread postings |

Hi When I first started using Genes in January this year before I became a full member I was able to reply to messages I had recieved but not send a message to anybody else.So as long as they made the first contact then I could reply. Also with viewing trees , I could allow someone to view my tree but was unable to view theres. So not having full membership shouldnt stop people from being able to respond to you, unless its changed since January. I do think though that alot of people start putting a tree on here and then give up for whatever reason and never come back to the site.It is annoying when you dont get a response. Julie |

I belong to another site which has message tracking which lets you know when the recipient has recieved/read your message. Then at least you know whether they are just choosing to ignore you or haven't got round to reading it yet!!! Plus not everyone is onsite every day. I am at the moment coz I am trapped at home with 2 sick kids, but usually I am lucky if I can get on once a week. So any messages I get may not get answered for a while. Does that make sense? I have had a couple of glasses of plonk!!! |
