My Great Great Grandmother Margaret James (or Maggie) was easy enough to find - but her parents are deciding to send me on a wild goose chase (See Below) |

The info from censuses (1881-1901) varied, birth dates ranging from 1851-1856 for Thomas & 1855-1857 for Mary. Then birth Location's moved around. Each census agreed on Wales, but one states just wales, another says Conway, Caernovshire and the other says Pembrokeshire for Mary & Hanford North/West Wales for Thomas Feeling stuck I decided to send for Margaret's birth certificate, on the off chance Mary's maiden name was shed some light - NO! turns outs she was previously an Evans So i'm looking for two people with a random age & place of birth with two of the most common surnames in wales. GRRRRR - anyone have any ideas? |

Large gin and tonic! I know the feeling. My husband's Welsh lot could only afford 4 Christian and about 3 surnames! nell |

Louise - I can quite sympathise. I have traced my Welsh line as far back as Thomas Morgan born about 1813, son of Thomas Morgan, a tailor, and Esther / Hester Williams, born about 1812, daughter of William Williams, a carpenter, and that is as far as I can get with them at the moment, although I have got some of my English lines back as far as the 17th century. I know they were born in Breconshire, but the exact places have different names on every census, and neither was living with any relative on the 1841, just before they married, nor did they think to have relatives witness their marriage! There are so many Morgans and Williamses that it's impossible, just like with your James and Evans. Kate. |
