i have been unable to trace my Gt Gt gt grandparents marriage being Charles Vickery born approx 1819 in ? to Eliza Lancombe born ? They had 3 children that I know of being George Vickery 1849, Annie Maltilda 1853, John Vickery in 1860 both born in Paddington, London. As I have tried various avenues in trying to locate marriage certificate via Charels Vickery to no avail, ) The family does not appear on 1851 or 1861 census either) I was wondering about Eliza's origins. There are only 2 LANCOMBES on Free Bmd and 6 on this site so its quite a rare name. would anyone know where the name LANCOMBE originates from. Many Vickerys stem from the Devon area so I was wondering whether Lancombe may originate from the same area or nearby. I would be so grateful of any advice or ideas or this one!!!!! Thank you.

a George Lancum married at Paddington 29 Feb 1852. Possible brother? George came from Northants, according to the 1861 census, which seems to be where most of them came from.

Bet you any money you like it was originally LANGHOLM (also spelt LANGHAM etc). And just to hedge my bet, is/was there a place called Lancombe anywhere, anyone? Old Crone

Nothing listed on Parloc for Lancombe. How about a French connection with the toiletries company Lancome? Brenda

It does strike me that 'Combe' is a word often used in Devon for a bay, isnt it?

Just out of interest, try googling Lancombe, Devon, quite a lot of entries come up
