Hi, does anyone know how much it would cost for Somerset House to trace your family tree? I have hit a brick wall, and just wondered how much it would be. Thanks Margaret |

Somerset House is now the home of the Courtauld art collection. The births, marriages and deaths indexes are at the Family Records Centre. They will do limited searches for a particular event within a consecutive 3-year-period for about £11.50 but they don't do blanket family trees. You could pay a professional researcher - there are lots advertising in the various family history magazines - but you could try a cheaper way first, namely to tell us GR people what you are stuck on and perhaps we can help. nell |

Thanks Helen for your reply, You GR people have been really helpful in the past, I don't like to keep asking. I have got as far as my GGgrandfather , sent for his marriage certificate, all it had was the marriage date, his fathers name , name of town, no dates to go on at all. I have checked out Freebmd, ancestry, igi list, my credits have run out at 1837 online. don't know where else to go, any help would be apreciated. Margaret |

Hi Margaret So, as Little Nell asks, what can we do to help? Names, dates, places, events? Christine |

Margaret, As Nell says, let us know the details and there will be someone here who will have a go for you. Starting with the marriage certificate you have, what are the names, dates and places. |

Margaret Don't be afraid to ask! Usually someone is willing to help. The worst thing that can happen is that no one responds, and then you are just where you started:-) You don't say what information you are looking for. What you found on the marriage cert is exactly the information you should have. The only date on a marriage cert will be the date of the wedding. What date was the wedding, what was the groom's name and occupation, bride's name and their father's names and occupations and what are you trying to find out? With that info you should be able to find some of these people on one or more censuses. nell |

Margaret If you put a posting on the Records Office board putting 1851 Warrington in the title, someone may be able to find your man in the census. This will give his age and birthplace so you can look for a baptism. Do you know when Mary married Joseph? Is she described as a widow on the marriage cert and can you not find William's death on Freebmd? nell |
