depends when ... the 'legal age' has changed over the years

If it says 'of age' I'd assume it's from an older marriage certificate and it would mean over 21. Kath. x

Thanks everyone. I've got the marriage certificate for my ggg grandparents, married 1855 and it says of age. I'm trying to find out the age of my ggg grandfather to see if there is a birth record anywhere. He was born in bramham, Yorkshire aprrox 1836, I say approx as that what it says on census records. I know it's too early for a birth to be registered, but i'm kind of hoping that the date my be a bit out to make him born so i can get a certificate. There is a record of a Thomas noble on Yorkshire bmd for 1838 in bramham, i wonder how many thomas Nobles there where then for that year lol, loads probably. I do have his fathers name which was david Noble, I'm trying to find out his mothers name. Oh well, Think I'll give it a go. Maria

Hi Victor, Tadcaster is a possibility, I've just grabbed hubby's debit card and i'm going to order the certificate from the yorkshire bmd as it actually says Bramham, this is what all the census say and his children where born there too so i'm going to give that a go to start with. Fingers crossed. Thanks anyway. :) Ria
