Other than getting the birth certificate, is there anyway I can find the parents of someone born in 1915? My only alternative is to wait and see if the family can find the birth certificate, but that is a long shot. Susan

If you find the entry for the birth in the GRO indexes, it will give you the mother's maiden name, and you should then be able to search back from there for the parents' marriage to discover their first names. If you need more help with this, let me know and I'll get back to you tomorrow. But if their names were something like Brown and Smith, just order the birth certificate!! Kate.

If you know where they were born or where they lived, you could search the parish records for a baptism (most people were baptised then) and that would give you at least the fathers name and mothers first name, and if you're lucky the mother's maiden name as well. Kath. x

If you are the Susan who sent me a message, sorry but I couldn't reply because it had the dreaded 'HappyGenes Reunited error' at the bottom. I have had a look on Family Relatives to see what I can find out without using any credits, and there were two Newton births registered in 1916 with mother's maiden name Waugh; one registered in the March quarter (so the birth could have been at the end of 1915), and one in the June quarter. There was 1 marriage between a Waugh and a Newton between 1912 (when they started putting spouse's name on the index) and 1916. It was in the December quarter of 1914, but the first name was not Ada. It could be the middle name, though. If you want more information than that, you would have to look at the indexes. Kate.
