Robyne, Gedcom is simply a universal method of saving data in a standard format which other programs can read. To read a Gedcom file you need to have some Geneaology Software. Do you have anything like Family Tree Maker, or something similar? If not there are free program you can download.

I have downloaded stuff from Familysearch, but i cant read the file, do i need to download anything to be able to read it? i have tried to open it in a workbook, but it makes no sense.
