My mum had 5 brothers all born between 1898 and 1910. and 3 of them had wives called Gladys. At least thats what I always understood, so I spent a long time, no, a very long time looking for the marriages of the 3 of them for marriage to a Gladys ???????? all to no avail. So I went to see one of my old aunts on my dads side, she is now 87 years old, and asked her about the wives all having the name Gladys. She is still all with us despite her age, and when I asked her she laughed. I asked her why and she told me that my mum had a friend GLADYS who was a bit free and easy with her favours and couldnt keep her hands of any pair of pants, hence she made it her business to go round all the brothers in turn, despite 4 of then being married, Ive no need to tell you what she gave them. As a young boy I remember seeing some of my uncles with a lady who they called auntie Gladys and I always thought i'd seen her before somewhere. which of course I had at different times with different uncles. But at least I can now start searching for their real wives names. Just thought it might tickle your fancy. TED.

OH what a tangled web they weaved Eh!!! I too have had some family myths from my mum that I have since shot down in flames,so it doesnt do to rely too much on family stories. I went to Cornwall a month ago to see my Mums only surviving sibling aged 99!!!. & she told me things I never knew & it did shoot down some old stories. Onwards & Upwards i guess. Shirley

My daddy always told us we were direct decendants of Horatio Nelson. We took this in and believed him.In my history class I was all biz telling my teacher all about this.Lord, how she scorned...Years later, when I found out who he actually was,I came to realise it was just a wee story. The other night,I came upon an americian site .What did I find?????? dozens and dozens of Horatio Nelson Davison!!!!! Know what I'm telling my kids this week.......You know the great naval commander..well .. we're his direct decendants.... It's so good to pass on these bits of family history..don't you think? Hop-a-long.

My father had an Aunt Harriet, a 'maiden' aunt, who my parents sometimes visited with my brother, when he was young. When I tracked 2nd cousins from that side of the family, they told us she 'was a bit of a one'!! We recorded this in our family notes by saying that she 'welcomed the opportunities afforded by living in a seafaring town and was always pleased to see the ships come safely back to harbour.' WHAT a surprise when we discovered a marriage certificate for her. She was recorded with her husband in 1901 but what happened to him after that is anyone's guess.
