With the info gleaned from Victor have been trying to find births of various relatives. However not having much luck. 1881 census says: Thomas Taylor head M Male 37 newcastle on Tyne Cartman Alice Taylor Wife M Female 35 newcastle on Tyne Thomas Taylor Son Male 16 newcastle on Tyne cartman Isabella Taylor Daur Female 15 newcastle on tyne gen serv Many Jane Taylor daur female 13 newcastle on tyne scholar John Taylor son Male 12 Newcastle on Tyne scholar George Ed Taylor son male 9 Newcastle on tyne scholar Willam Taylor son male 5 Newcastle on tyne scholar Alice Taylor daur female 4 newcastle on tyne scholar source information: 29 Gallowgate census place Newcastle on Tyne st andrew, northumberland England Family History library film 1342220 Public records office reference RG11 Piece/folio 5058/57 Page Number 55 I have found 2 isabella taylors but one in morpeth and one tynemouth. also a Mary jane Taylor in morpeth. Morpeth is in northumberland, so will the others be too? Found 3 thomas taylors, 1 newcastle, 1 gateshead, 1 and 1 Thomas hind hunter taylor which sounds a bit grand for my family.4 williams, 2 gateshead same quarter, 1 newcastle and 1 William Cherlton Taylor. scream ran out of credits on 1837. any help appreciated. if ages on 1881 correct aprox years of birth will be: Thomas Taylor head 1844. Alice Taylor who was Sanderson before marriage 1846. Thomas taylor son 1865. isabella taylor 1866. mary jane taylor 1868, john taylor 1869, George Ed taylor 1872, william taylor 1876,alice taylor 1877. the mystery deepens further I understand Thomas taylor married for a 2nd time (head one I think) and had at least one more son. The wife came from Chipchase castle in Wark, and this son inherited the castle. (the family story was always that we were related to the taylors of chipchase castle.) |

Taylor is a very common surname, as I'm sure you know, so I would guess that the Morpeth etc. ones may just be coincidences, but I think this will be one of yours, from FreeBMD: Births Dec 1871 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Taylor George Edward Newcastle T. 10b 57 Births Mar 1877 ------------------------------------------------------------------- TAYLOR Alice Newcastle T 10b 78 I'll see if I can find any likelies for the rest and add them as and when. A few possibles for William - had to switch to ancestry because FreeBMD is taking forever today! Name: TAYLOR, William Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1875 District: Newcastle upon Tyne County: Northumberland Volume: 10b Page: 55 (click to see others on page) Name: TAYLOR, William Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1875 District: Newcastle upon Tyne County: Northumberland Volume: 10b Page: 62 (click to see others on page) Taylor, William Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1875 District: Newcastle upon Tyne County: Northumberland Volume: 10b Page: 125 (click to see others on page) Name: Taylor, William Record Type: Births Quarter: June Year: 1876 District: Newcastle upon Tyne County: Northumberland Volume: 10b Page: 120 (click to see others on page) and this could be Isabella: Name: Taylor, Isabella Record Type: Births Quarter: December Year: 1865 District: Newcastle upon Tyne County: Northumberland Volume: 10b Page: 61 (click to see others on page) There are so many Taylors that you can't really be sure without ordering the certs (you can specify check on parents' names). I would guess the others aren't on FreeBMD / ancestry yet, so you may have to bite the bullet and buy more 1837 credits! Kate. |

Ah, I've just realised that Newcastle has its own BMD site! If you go to http://www.ndfhs.fsnet.co.uk/RegIndex.html and have a look on there, maybe you will find some of what you are looking for. Not sure whether the years it allows you to search are complete, but you can choose from various date ranges between 1837 and 1870 for births, and 1837 to 1900 for marriages. I feel I have been wasting my time for about the last hour now, and I don't have time to look them up again on the Newcastle site for you, but you will have fun on there anyway, I'm sure. Good luck! Kate. |

GR think it best if they have the first big box you write in all squished up when you click ''Add Message''. Best thing to do is to type ''See below'' in the big box and then ''Reply'' to your own thread with the query you have. If you space this reply, the spacings will remain when you add the message. I think it is one of GR's little jokes they like to have! Sarah |
