Anyone good with needles and haystacks? I am looking for my partners 3xgreat grandparents. I have found his 2 x ggrandfather on the 1861 census with his mother shown as a widow. I have searched FreeBMD for male deaths from the date of the last child’s birth to the 1861 census, and then searched for marriages prior to oldest siblings birth with all the resulting ‘possible’ names and the female name – but I can’t find them, does anyone have any ideas where I might try? His 2 x ggrandfather is WILLIAM HANCOCK, born c.1845 Penn Buckinghamshire. He is shown on the 1861 census with his mother, SARAH, an Infant School Mistress, born c.1825, Penn, Bucks, and two siblings – Chas b.1847, and Catherine b.1851. I have him on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census, but cannot find his father’s name anywhere – help please !!!!!!! Thanks Trudy |

Trudy - have you already tried the obvious - looking for William Hancock's birth registration? Kate. |
