Hi all, does anyone know where I can find anything about Southley Paddock in Bedminster,Bristol? I would like ti know where abouts in Bedminster it is,what churches are nearby and if there would be any homes for unmarried mothers on it in 1850s. I know this is a bit of a strange request but it may help me looking for an elusive rellie!! Many thanks, Sineadxxx

This probably isn't much help, but it's a start!! On the 1851 census Bedminster is divided into 21 enumeration districts. Southley Paddock is recorded in District 2, along with these other streets: CENSUS No. 2 Regent Road right side, Farley Square, Minch's Place, Charlotte Street, Queen Street, Bright Bow, Southeys Paddock, Coronation Road, South, Hayers & Turnpike House. As you see, it is spelled differently!! Maybe if you can find a current map you could find some of those other streets? Sarah

I don't think it's district 2 in 1861 as well (just looked-different streets)!! That would be too easy lol Sarah

Well,it is not in district 1,2or 3 in 1861! and so far I have trawled through nearly 130 pages with no success!!! And I am losing the will to live and my eyes are going boggly!!!! As for the bristolinformation site- I have been on that with no luck but will try again and that streetmap site. many thanks, Sineadxxx

Sinead - you don't have to trawl every page to find out what streets are within each census district!! For 1861 (or any others on Ancestry) - Click 1861 England, bottom left of screen Then scroll down and click Somerset Then click Bedminster Then Click Bedminster again! Then you get a list of the district numbers, but on the right it says, ''View Description of Enumeration District'' - If you click there you get the page detailing what streets are included in the relevant district... If you know this already, apologies - may be useful to someone else??! Sarah

Coronation Road still exists in Bedminster but the other street places I do not recognise so not sure if a current street map will be of any help. Norma

Thamks peeps, will try the old map site now! Sarah, I did find all the different district descriptions but needless to say Southley paddock was not mentioned! Eventually after trawling through nearly 300 pages I found it- called South Paddock! Needless to say there were no Kingstons on it but also there appeared to be no home for unmarried women,so that is a no go area! I will try the old map site and hopefully find the local church to begin trawling through records on the offchance!!! Many thanks, Sineadxxx
