Polish Births.....How difficult to trace??

Hi all. I have gone back to researching my Chryst line of the family (hit brickwalls so tried another line for a while). I have got Maurice Chryst who died in Sheffield in 1907 who on all censuses says he was a naturalised british subject and was born Poland. On 2/3 of these, he has put Austria as well just to confuse! He married Sheffield in 1858 as Moritz Christ to Helen Beckitt. 3 witnesses, very polish sounding surnames that i cannot dicifer but they end in 'ski'. With him being born around 1829/30, would there be anyway of tracing a birth record or baptism record in Poland for this man or is this my line of Chryst's ended? Any suggestions greatly received. Can you track the Naturalisation papers? May be you could get clues there. I do sympathise. We bought a 1982 death certificate to track back on a Polish line but the place of birth just said.. Poland.... No help there then!

Hi Gwyneth, I have tried the naturalisation records route, went to Kew in February and looks like he either lied and was never naturalised or the papers got destroyed. That left me feeling really deflated and thats when i put this Chryst/Christ family on a backburner as did not know what to do next. Regards, Claire x
