Canadian Censuses pre-1860/1?

I wondered whether it's possible to get Canadian Census info before 1860/1. I have no idea, all help appreciated. Louise

Hi Louise. I've wondered that, too. I haven't been able to find any online. Perhaps they are available on sites like Ancestry. In what area are you looking? Most of my ancestors arrived in Ontario, Canada around the 1850's-1860's and I have a few helpful websites for Ontario if you are interested in that province.

Hi Lisa, I've no idea where he was born in Canada, although it was in 1847. Half of the family were also born in New York. Their dad was a baker, so must have liked travelling. Louise

Louise, The Canadian Archives are planning to release 1851 census later this year, so far no specific date. The folks at Automated Genealogy will likely take on the job of transcribing it when it becomes available. Hope this helps. Barbara
