Looking for birth of Charles GUIDREY. I have his death in 1984 which gives his birthdate as 3 Dec 1912, but no sign of him on 1837online, familyrelatives or ancestry. I know he died in Bristol and was also born there, so why not on GRO index? Any ideas please |

Have you checked the Jan quarter of the following year? Also sometimes they got their ages wrong, so I would look ayear or two either side of the date you have. THEN there are the various name spellings! Could the spelling of the name have changed over time? My family started off as Lozone then later it became Lazone. Hope that helps. Pat |

Thank you Pat, I have done a complete search on familyrelatives from 1866 - 1920 on just the surname. Have tried some spelling variants, but familyrelatives wont do a search on first name only. Thanks again for the suggestions |

I had a look on 1837 online, Have found a Thomas G Guidrey, born Jan quarter of 1915. Mothers maiden name is Bennett. Born Bristol. Vol 6a Page 1. Maybe a brother? Also a Rosina F Guidrey, Born Bristol. Mothers maiden name Allen. vol 6a pg 19. Jan quarter of 1912. Pat |

a Guidrey married a Bennett in 1913. This doesn't rule out Charles being a brother of Thomas G, but if he was, and his mother went to the register office alone, and admitted to being unmarried, then under the rules of that time she wouldn't have been allowed to name the father. So Charles would be in the index only under his mother's name. As it happens, there is a Charles E Bennett birth registered in Bristol in 1st quarter 1913, mother Bennett so probably unmarried. But of course Bennett is a fairly common name. |

Good grief Robin, if that is correct, then you have certainly rattled a few skeletons. This is a friend of mine, who tried doing his family tree a while ago and gave up when he couldn`t find his father`s birth certificate. It will be worth the expense of a certificate or 2 to make sure. Thank you both for your eagle eyes |

I now have the birth certificate for Thomas born 1914 but registered 1915, mothers maiden name given as Ada Bennett I also have the marriage certificate for Thomas Guidrey and Ada Bennett 1913. The birth certificate for Charles Edward BENNETT gives mothers name as Ada BENNETT and the birthdate is exactly correct. So Thomas and Charles are brothers Thank you Robin for finding that for me. |
