I have tried both on Ancestry and the 1901 Government site ,to find any returns for Deal in Kent . Are the returns missing? The address is 3, Louise Terrace, Cemetery Road , Deal. on a birth Cert. for Francis Joseph Akerman .born 31st May 1899, to Francis Albert Ackerman (Sergeant Royal Marines, Deal) and Minnie Ackerman. They lived in the area until at least 1905 . Has anyone any ideas where I can try next, please? Thankyou ,Jane

Have you tried alternate spellings? If he was a marine, might he have been at the Boer war, and taken his family?

Jane, I have tried both Ancestry and 1901 Census for you without any luck, tried different names, etc..... but will keep trying for you... they must be somewhere. Elizabeth Update: Just checked Ancestry again, under 'choose a county', then 'Civil Parish' there is not a civil parish for Deal listed at the bottom of the 1901 census page, every other town in Kent seems to be there. I think you will have to go through Kent page by page and maybe you will find it. sorry not to be of more help.

I KNEW I had read it somewhere!! Here is one of the Frequently Asked Questions on the Nat Archives 1901 site: ''Are any parts missing on the 1901 returns? Parts of Deal, Kent. You may also find that the odd page has suffered damage and so certain information is missing.'' Sorry about that...frustrating isn't it? If you want to see the list of missing areas in 1861 I have done a list on the tips board (the list is really llllonnngggg). Sarah

Thankyou for your replies, Yes I do have the Birth Cert. for Francis Joseph (known later as Joe) Have also tried an address search on Govt. 1901 but no joy with that ... Not unusual as it has to be accurate!! Thanks once again Jane Forgot to say that I've searched census returns for Kent, from Eastry to Sholden nr. Deal and that seems to be as far as it goes!!!

I Goggled Deal 1901 Census and on a site called :Answers(.)Com I received the same information as Sarah: Census 1901 'It covers the whole of England and Wales with the exception of Deal in Kent' That is a real shame. Elizabeth
