Esta I just got in from work. How frightening for you, as I read how 'scared' you was being your first trip to the records office, and only your 4th time in London. I am so glad you are ok. Don't let 'them' put you off, and start planning your next visit now. Sandra |

Glad to see your message this morning Esta. I saw messages from Jess and others last night asking after you and went to bed wondering and hoping. Sorry you didn't get your research done but good to know you're safe and well Jeanette x |

Sandra / Irene, How kind of you to ask. We made it as far as Heathrow Heston Services and that's were we stayed for 4 hours. I'd say we were lucky not to have made it any further as we would have been right in the middle of the gridlocked traffic. Had a slight scare when we were suddenly told to get away from the coaches / buses and about 6 police cars turned up to check the vehicles ! Got caught in traffic when we did finally move but I'm not complaining after what happened. Obviously I am A bit dissappointed not to get to the archives as it took me 6 months to organise the trip but it was only a newspaper story and I can always go again . Esta :) |

Esta I hope you did not get caught up in the terrible events in London yesterday. So very very sad so many people dead and hurt, such a terrible thing to do to ordinary people going about their business. Irene |

Sending you (((success vibes))) for your research trip, Esta! There's also the Newspaper Library at Colindale (top of the Northern Line) which might have a story on your Gt Uncle. I don't know any more about how to visit it though, sorry! I'd only heard of it because I grew up in the area, but it might be worth looking into if you don't find anything! Julia |

All the best Esta. I have just returned from the records office nearest my rellies birthplaces and didn't find a thing.( I think he was found under the gooseberry bush after all. ) I was disappointed but determined to succeed in the future. The office was very helpful and there were several others there researching, it was exciting. regards Rosalie |

Tomorrow I'm off to Westminster Archives. This is my first visit to any sort of records office and only about my 4th visit to London......don't know what 'scares' me most....LOL. Some of you might remember my quest to prove a GG uncle was alive on the 1901 census. I have his death cert dated 2nd April and after alot of help ( Big thanks to Leigh - Missing Link ) he was eventually found on the census as A G Stang aged 22......His name was Alfred George Stanning aged 19 !!. All the clues came from the death cert and he was found at his place of work. This is where he died after a fall from the 8th floor ! Unfortunatly the inquest papers didn't survive so my only hope is a newspaper story of the accident and inquest report. So 6 months after all the great help I got I am finally able to go to London......I get to Victoria around 11.30 and I'm hoping it's not a long walk to the Archives. I'll have about 4 hours to search. Please keep everything crossed that I find something in the papers !! Esta |
