Thanks All, just been on Ancestry and had another look, been on the page numbers to see 'others on same page' and they were just those in the same year ie. all 1858 or 1882. All good fun Gloria

Gloria, I just had a look at the images on FreeBMD. Ann is definitely on pg 125, but Joseph is not real clear. It could be pg 125 or 128. Looks like all the death records Burnley are in Vol 8e. Good Luck Rose

What Sarah says is quite right - each volume started from page 1 each quarter - if that weren't the case, you would only have to give the page number when ordering a certificate. Each volume had the same Registration Districts in the same order each quarter. Smaller districts may have had only 20 pages each quarter, so the odds against the same number coming up twice may not be particularly long.

Each subdistrict would have it's own book, but they sometimes covered a small area! Sarah

I didn't realise that a small village might have its own page!!! That might explain it. I always assumed that everyone in the registration district would be written down in date order in one big book.

Thanks for that Sarah, I do know they would have died in the same village and in a very sparsely populated area so what you say makes sense. Gloria

In fact it's quite likely for someone to have the same page as well as the same volume. You accept they would have the same volume number if they died in the same area? Within the volume number are several districts and sub-districts which were recorded in the same order each quarter, so each sub-district would have had a similar range of page numbers each quarter....so the chances are reasonable. Most likely they died in the same village and that village was always the second sub-district of the third district of volume X, or whatever. It probably isn't an error! Sarah

Angela, they died in the given years, or at least the censuses bear this up. Would I find it at the Records Office in Preston Lancashire? Gloria

It would seem to be a bit strange to have the same page number after such a long time. I reckon that it might be a transcription error. Perhaps someone who is going to the FRC in London might be able to do a quick check on the references for you in the registers?

Rosemary, yes I have and she is definitely not there. Joseph is as a widow with their children and later with his sister (presumably lookin after the children) Gloria

Have you checked any of the census records to see if Ann is still around after 1858? Rpse

I have just been looking on Ancestry at the deaths of a husband and wife. Ann Stanworth died march 1/4 1858 vol 8e page 125. Joseph Stanworth died sept 1/4 1882 vol 8e page 125. Both Burnley Lancashire. Can this be right, surely they can't both be on the same page 24 years apart?
