Thanks, my dad is beautiful, absolutely a wonderful man. Veggie all his life (was called a nancy boy in the docklands cos of that - but stuck to his principles, even in Burma during the war!) He is 91 this year and I guess I need to treasure every moment that he is alive now. Old sod lives 130 miles away on his own, no help whatsoever, closed the door on the doctor last time we asked him to call (the first time in 60 years dad had seen one!) saying, no thank you, Im fine. Wont move to me or sister. But you have to admire him! Its also great on the family history front. He was youngest of 14 children and still remembers all the stories and people going back to the early 19th century! |

Yes Heather, I agree. I have used this site for a couple of years now as my lot are from the East London dock area. The photo's are excellent too. Another great site is www(.)royal-arsenal(.)com It has an indepth description of life on the convict hulks moored on the Thames. Sandra |

Yes Im sure they have Southampton and Liverpool, Hartlepool and deffo the best site ever for any of the London docks and areas. I just found a photo of the church where my mum met my dad (she was watching a wedding - aged 16 - and her bike fell over and dad rushed over to pick it up for her). I had never seen the church before - had heard the story so many times from mum ('I thought, oh a real gentleman!') Its lovely to have that photo added to my family tree program now. Do look at the links in the left hand margin and click on the photo titles to get a blow up photo. |

I have said it before, but what a brilliant site this is, by Greenwich Maritime museum. I have just been to it again to look up some info, and the photos and drawings back hundreds of years are mind blowing and extremely useful for putting flesh on the bones of your family trees. Apart from the fantastic history of each area. Please do look if your ancestors lived near any of the English Port towns. http://www(.)portcities(.)org(.)uk/ |
