Scotspeople can be a nightmare for getting names wrong, for example I was looking for my GG Aunt Catherine's marriage and it was only because I took a pot luck and made a family contact in Scotland and got the date, when I eventually went into Scotspeople again they had her spelt as Cathernie, but this did not come up on a Soundex search. I have now started just putting in surnames and looking through the pages.

If you can't find them on the census I'm not surprised. They have probably been mistranscribed. You need to be quite inventive about doing searches - I found some of my relatives by doing a search on their first names, birthplace and age. Of course if you don't have that info - which is why you are looking on the census in the first place - its very tricky. I have lots of mistranscribed relatives on 1901 including Smoothy as Lenorthey Jeuel as Denel Matthews as Maththews (!) Lemuel as Leonard on other censuses I have Moore as Thorne Vine as Kine Matthews as Marthers Smoothy as Timothy Broad as Rurard, Brand and Wadd So try writing Pullar in flowery writing and see if it suggests any alternatives - Bullar, Pollar, Rullar etc. nell

Hi Craig, Have you tried IGI on familysearch.org? I was amazed to find my grandparents and mother on there yesterday. It says that it was entered after 1991 by a member of the Mormon Church.Wish I could find out who entered it. CHEERS,Margaret

I feel so dumb I could scream!!! I have a'WEBTV' Which allows me to serf the net, e-mail etc.But does not allow me to open attachments or view images. Therefor I have been imposing on the kindness of people on this site to look things up for me.I really hate to do that. Well......Today I went to use the computer at the library in order to search on Scotlands people. We are limited to 1 hour on the computer. I purchased 30 credits and TRIED to search. I was looking for JOHN PULLAR b 1860 in the 1901 Census Perth, Scotland...NO RESULTS..I have his marriage (from Val on GR)27 DEC 1887 Perth. I also have him witness at his brothers death in 1926 Minnoull,Perth. His address was MONTROSE at that time. (Once again curtesy of Val) WHY can't I find him in 1901 or 1891? I also Checked 1901 for his Brother CHARLES PULLAR .....I already had this but was checking to make sure I wasn't crazy.....Once again NO RESULTS..... I was also checking for their sister MARGARET ANN PULLAR marriage. I found one but couldn't confirm it because it didn't have her parents names. Needless to say I was wasting credits, then my hour on the computer was up. What do you think I could be doing wrong ????? How do you find out if married couples had children? I'm afraid to waste more credits. ANY ADVISE ?????? Margaret
