What does Stray mean

Hi Sorry if im dumb but just found a rellie and they say he was a stray in 1881 regards June

It means he no longer lives where he was born, which applied to more and more of my relatives as the 19th century moved on. nell

Who is 'they'? Do you mean this word was entered on the 1881 census, or has someone else found him entered on the census in a county other than that of his birth and described this census entry as a 'stray'?

Moved out of the county in which they were born.

Hi Thanks for repiles have him on 1881 with wife and family tried Google with birth place and he came up stray sorry now i understand dumb or what lol June
