My nana entered a home in sollihull due to being pregnant outside of marriage. From what I have managed to find out about this particular home the majority of the mothers had their babies taken away and adopted out. My nana managed to keep her baby and left after only 3 months in the home. I was wondering if anyone would konw how she managed to do this. I have no one left in the family who can tell me anything about my nana and trying to do that particular tree is proving very upsetting and frustrating as I am getting no-where, there must be a relative out there somewhere who can help me. Kind regards Michelle

hi Michelle, My great granny was an unmarried mother, she was very intelligent and a very good fibber, i have no clue who she was, as she has many different names and is impossible to trace, well to a beginner anyway. I wish you lots of luck in finding out about yours. sophie

Perhaps she married soon after giving birth, not necessarily to the baby`s father. Then she would have had someone to support her. I have 2 in my tree, one kept her baby and never married at all, but she did have family help. Another kept her baby, then married 3 years later, her son retaining his original name, They both then put a fictional father on their marriage certificates
