Hi there I know there has been some threads on this topic already but they are a little dated and new products come on the market all the time! Could some kind soul please advise me as to what genealogy software package to opt for - free or otherwise. There are so many choices out there, I really could do with some recommendations!! I would like something that could show cousins marrying etc as this is not possible on GR. Much appreciated Helen |

Everybody will say that the program they use is the best, it all depends on what you want the program to do and how easy is it to use and obviously the price. All programs will handle inter-marriages, after all it was very common years ago. There are some free ones available for download which are perfectly acceptable and even very good, there are others that can be downloaded and used for a certain amount of time on a trial basis. We have almost all of the programs that are available as we use them professionally and speaking from a purely personal view I would recommend Family Tree Maker. There is a report available that lists all of the capabilities of the most popular programs and it can be seen here: http://www.mumford.ca/reportcard/baserepcard.html Hope this helps.
