Thanks everyone - Joe I have no idea if my rellies were of German origin. Where did you find the details of the Orton from Germany? Karen Joe just read your update - oh well keep searching in the Enderby Leicestershire area. K |

Karen - yhi is only a guess but wondering if the K is for Konfection ? Do you know if your Ortons were of German origin ? there was an influx of 'sugar bakers' who came from Germany late 18th century and throughout the 19th century and there was an ORTON among them. Have scoured German sites but cant find anything on the SFW but its worth further search. Just read that you are looking at Leics. area - THE Orton I mentioned were London. |

Thanks for suggestions - Peter it was in Endersby, Lecestershire. I've just looked him up in the 1871 - and at the grand old age of 82 he was a labourer!! Karen |

I have found rellie Thomas Orton on the 1861 census aged 72 and in the profession it states S F W K - his son was a confectioner and I believe he was also a master confectioner. Any suggestion would be helpful Thanks karen |
