Dear Friends, Can anyone kindly advise me on where to go from here have found 2 people whom I think are my grandparents. Next step to verify this was to try and find a marriage cert, I havn,t had any luck. They had both been married before to my knowledge, does this mean they didn,t bother? I HOPE NOT as this was the vital piece of info that I needed to continue my search. I've already been looking for years but still havn't been able to draw a line under what I have already found out. Any ideas would be great. thankyou kindest regards Christine

I have not found marriage details of a few of my ancestors. Perhaps 'they lived in sin'. I keep checking in case they are mentioned in updates on the site. Wish you luck Irene

Have you tried looking at years after parents birth? Also, if they had 2 forenames, one or both may have reversed them or missed one off. If you are searching the GRO index, it is possible that it may have got missed when the register office sent copies. Is it back far enough to find one of them on a census?

If they had both been married previously, then your grandmother would probably have used her previous married surname at her second marriage, not her maiden name. If you can't find a marriage under that name, then maybe they married in Scotland, Ireland or overseas? What does it have for her surname on your parent's birth cert? This should list all her surnames, i.e. maiden name (''formerly'') and previous married name (''late'') as well as her name at the time of the birth. Richard

Christine - why not put the details you have up on this thread so we can see if we can help? I did finally manage to prove that one of my rellies was definitely lying about being married on her daughter's birth certificate when I got her death cert, in her maiden name; informant was her mother who was looking after the child so definitely knew the whole story. Certain others I am pretty sure weren't married, but it is so difficult to prove they weren't! Kate.

Hi Christine Don't get disheartened! keep checking the GRO index on 1837, I have searched for months for my Grandparents Marriage, found it two days ago, they actually had my mum and then married 12 months later. My Grandmother was married previously and the registration was under both her maiden and married name first time around. Good luck Lisa
