I have a relertive Alice Ruff born 1884 and on looking in Familysearch I found her with same parents but she is now in Canada still in her single name and then with a marraige to a Fredrick Yelland 1907 and then her death 1957 The problem is that I found a marriage in england to a Walter William Bailey 1903 but unable to find anymore information after that. Now do you think its possible that she could be the same Alice as the Canadian one. There is a submitter listed for the Canadian entry. Do I contact him?

Margaret, I would contact the canadian relative but if you are worried about disclosing the english marriage then don't mention it. But bear in mind its not your fault if your relative may of committed bigamy (i assume this is what you are worried about)Good Luck MOE!

Bear in mind that it could be made up by the submitter or at least not verified. nell

thanks for that help. No I never thought to look for the death of Walter will do that first and then send of letter to canada and as you said nor mention the first marraige that I found. If we never had this site I would still be lost in space or spaced out . Thanks margaret

it only says she died in Canada. No telling how long she'd been there. The marriage is on FreeBMD: 1907 Oct-Dec Brighton 2b 475 RUFF Alice YELLAND Frederick Widows didn't normally revert to their maiden names, even young ones, widowhood was nothing to be ashamed of. Could be divorce, or bigamy, or could be there were two Alices. Maybe the Canadian submitter, working backwards from the marriage, went looking for a birth certificate and found the wrong one. He probably didn't have access to the 1891 and 1901 censuses but they might shed some light
