Hi Jennifer The person in question definately wasn't mad, it was the 'terminology' used when I was given the information. I'll try the site you suggested, don't have anything to lose1 Thanks again Lisa |

Lisa Newspapers archives are NOT generally online. You have to go to the relevant county records office and look there. nell |

What you can uncover would depend if the person in question was sentenced to a term of inprisonment, because ' At His Majesty's Pleasure' is a term used for someone mentally unfit who was detained for an indefinite period, if this was the case the information may be restricted. Try doing a search on the name in TNA catalogue. Jennifer |

Hi Nell How on earth do I go about looking it up on microfilm, would the newspaper have an archive online? Lisa |

No. You would need to know which prison he was in, and for recent info you would have to contact the Home Office, who might not release the information. If you had an idea about when s/he was detained, you could look in the relevant local/national newspapers on microfilm. nell |

Hi My brain is in overload, small amount of information and I have new leads! If someone was ' detained at Her Majesty's Pleasure' for a short spell in the 1940's, does a website exist that would give me definate proof that this was in fact true? Thanks Lisa |
