Hi Has anybody else had this about names my mothers name was Florence but called Queenie nobody knew her has Florence. my dads name was John but called Jack nobody knew him as John. June

i have had similar ... called Nel nelly real name was Mildred Called Dol or dolly reall name was May called Eadie real name was Edith still looking for ART ... maybe archibald or arthur ..??

John is often called Jack, when my father-in-law was in hospital they were calling on John.. he ignored them as he has alway's been Jack! I also have a Daniel who bacame Donald, this is common in Scotland too. Marion (I think) lol

Johns are often called Jack, I had two in my family. But I also had a great-great aunt Emily Esther who was called 'Aunt Polly Em' apparently because she kept a parrot! My aunt Esther was Hetty. On my father's side he had several uncles who were known by their second names, so Uncle Randall was actually Walter and Uncle Lemuel was actually Robert. To confuse things even more his uncle John was recorded on the census as 'Jas'! Dad's brothers were Jabez John Thomas, known as Jim Jeuel George known as George and Harry Samuel known as Sam. nell

I had a Uncle called Ted, but found out his real name was Edward!! Can't believe Ted is short for Edward!! I thought I'd found another sibling of my mums!! Joanne.
