Hi - Birth Cert - John James Collins, born Rotherhithe -b.Aug.1878 - Father Timothy Collins -Dock Labourer. Marr. Cert. - John James Collins, married Bermondsey - AGE 27 - Father Timothy Collins dec'd. - Water labourer. I know there is only a 2 year discrepancy, but do you think this is 'my guy'? Just to add to the confusion, John James married an Elizabeth Richards (widow) whose father was also a John James. John's mother was also an Elizabeth Richards on her marriage to Timothy. Her father's name was James. No wonder I go crazy from time to time. Rita

I guess you should look at censuses (1881-1901) to see if there were any other John Collins of about the same age who had fathers called Timothy. You can never be absolutely sure, but you should eliminate as many possibilities as possible before you make your decision. The more info you have on which to base your conclusion the better.

Hi Vic and Geoff, Thanks for responses. I will try the 1891/1901 route I think. Regards, Rita
