You can google, or look on a2a to see if the company has archives in England, or contact the Sheffield public library/archives. nell

Company Records are at TNA Kew. Try the procat Catalogue on www(.)nationalarchives(.)gov(.)uk for more info. You can download a leaflet from there on Companies. Not all are kept and many are dissolved after so many years. I have found 2 very small businesses at TNA. Unfortunately one was dissolved just one year before I found it. Companies House in London is also another possible avenue. You can also search Trade Directories like Kellys to ascertain addresses but you will need to search these in the Main Library of the Town/City where the Business was, which in this case is Sheffield or go to somewhere like the Guildhall Library in London where they have the most complete set of Directories for the whole of the UK. Also try Historical Directories online which may have some answers. Janet

Is there a way of searching for 19th century/early 20th century companies? I'm trying to find out if a family rumour that there was a Mason Knives Factory in Sheffield is true... Hope someone can help! Rowena
