Hi have just recieved my nans birth cert and my nan and grandads wedding cert. My nan was born in what appears to be the house where her mum was living, she was a domestic servant in a house of a different address (stated on birth cert also). There is no father listed as expected and i am unable to find my g grandmother on the 1901 census, which leads me to believe she may not have been born (nan born in 1916 and g nan unmarried). On the wedding cert my nan has listed a Alfred Osborne as father, but we believe that to be an uncle and she was sent to live in kent with an aunt as soon as she was born. Is there a way to search the addresses listed on my nans birth certs? Sorry if all too confusing.

You said you cannot find your great-nan in 1901. Could you post her name to see if others can find her? Or do you particularly think she might have been only 15 or less when she had your nan?? Re searching addresses - After 1901 you would be restricted to electoral rolls and trade/post office directories. In 1901 you can search by address on the National Archives site. If you need more info on any of this, please ask! Sarah

My g'nan was Anna Osborne a general servant of 30 winchester avenue, brondesbury, willesden. The address of birth and residence of my g'nan is Twyford Lodge, Acton Lane, Willesden. What has now confused me is that i have looked on the 1901 census website and neither of these addresses are known. I have no idea how old my g'nan was but because she was unmarried i would presume she was quite young?

If you are using Ancestry, on their home page select 1901 England census from the list on the left. At the bottom of the next page that opens select the county you are interested in. The next page asks you to select a parish and then that will take you to a page to choose a district. This is where the laborious task of searching through the districts for the street name you require comes in (unless you already know which it is in). Helps to have a street map or good local knowledge of the area. Anyway carry on until you find your street. Then go through page by page until you get the right door number or building name. Hope this is clear enough to work with, Best wishes, Brenda
