Hi Robyne I've just mentioned this on another thread; try your local records office, they usually have copies of the BMD index for the whole country and are either free or very cheap to search. Heather |

It has to be a main library, not your local one. Most big ones have a Family Research Centre. Most of my family are Mancunians, but as it is a bit far on public transport I haven't been. I can go to the one in Stockport, easier for me to pop on the bus, but they don't hold any other info only BMD'S for M/C. Everything else there, is for Stockport residents only. Ann |

Definitely check it out first. Where I live they have spent MILLIONS on a new all-singing, all-dancing library, but it has almost no family history things and the reference section is smaller than in the old Victorian library it replaced..... Maybe yours has a website? Sarah |

Robyn, Check with your library first of what they hold. We have a very large on near us but they do not hold GRO on microfische, they told me to access it on 1837online via my pc! Kim |

They will only give you the reference numbers to enable you to order the certificate. Unfortunately you will still have to pay for these at £7 each. Sam x |

Hi Robyne UNLESS its a very small library they should have the GRO microfiche files , the librarian will show you how to use them. It has the same info, ref nos etc as 1837. Ann |

Hi most of my relatives are either from london or kent, can i look up their ref numbers in my local town library? I live in a fairly large town with a bit library so will that tell me the info i need, rather than having to pay for everything? |
