As a fresh faced new starter I found the '1837 online.com' a great (latch lifter) to get me started, it cost for units to veiw but is very reasonable, many thanks for the recomendation.

Don't forget FreeBMD for Births'deaths and marriages from 1837-1910(ish) as it's a free site and you might save yourself a lot of money. Although not complete still a brilliant website. Good luck!

For the period 1866=1920 familyrelatives.org is much better value and name indexed.

I agree with Heather and Carol. With being indexed, both FreeBMD and FamilyRelatives are much more user-friendly than 1837 which doesn't have a proper search facility. You might also like to look at the 'Free Trial' offer on Ancestry to see what you think. Ancestry has the same BMD as FreeBMD, but also has the censuses from 1861 to 1901. FamilyHistoryOnline is also good, and is pay to view. It has quite a bit of information from parish registers but the coverage varies from county to county. Good look in your search.
