I have got the medal card (1914-18) for a female rellie, well I hope she is my Rellie. I have no way of knowing if this is my Elizabeth Coulby. Can i use the card to help further my research??? and find out if she is indeed a rellie?? Shelli

The medal card should say which regiment she was with and I suppose you could try to get her service record which would have her date of birth etc. But I understand that many 1st WW records were burnt. nell

Nell all it says is QMAAC - corps AAF womens - Rank 2229 or 2279 - Regt she rec'd the Victory and British medals - roll QMaac 101 B3 Page 238 So you think with this info I can go to Kew and possibly find info on her???? IF her records weren't burnt???? Or do i need to conact some Govt dept? Shelli

hi shelli,you could contact mod medal office building 250 raf innsworth gloucester gloucestershire gl3 1mn they could give you more info ,ie address medals where sent to, next of kin, i have not used this myself so not to sure if they could help you,its worth a try,tony

Shelli, First W War records are at Kew and about 60% of records have survived. You do have to do the search yourself unless you are prepared to pay to have someone research for you. If you can get there reasonably easily then the search may be worth while but you may also be unlucky enough to have your relations in the 40% that were burnt. Until you search you will not know. One other point did she leave the service at the end of the 1 W War? If she stayed beyond 1922 then you will only be able to obtain the records up to 1922 at Kew. The records after 1922 are still with the MOD and have not been released to the general public but are available to the Next of Kin at a cost of about £30. The Naval Records post 1922 would be available from either Hayes or Gosport and the post 1922 Records for Army and RAF are also in different places. Janet
