Amazing story. Took spotty teenage son skateboarding to Southsea. Had a little drive around the villages nearby, looking for a place to eat. Stopped at a village and walked past a church. There was a wedding in progress... and I could not resist going into the churchgrounds to admire the dresses. One minute later, came accross a beautiful big marble cross.....which read ' In loving memory of Rev E.M Johnstone, born Goshen Dec 1827, died at Portsmouth, and of his wife Elizabeth Mary Pakenham' etc etc. For anyone who knows me, for the last 2 years I have been using this site for research, and have had little luck. Spookily enough this grave is of my g-g-grandad's brother and his wife. Moral;- Look in every church yard that you pass....you may be as lucky as me.

Gemma Oooo, how spooky! Well done you. If you'd started out looking for graves, instead of admiring dresses, you probably wouldn't have found it. Well done you! nell

Here's another spooky trick for you to try, and it can work. Go to bed with a piece of paper and a pen. (try not to stab yourself during the night!). Before you go to sleep, shout out loud in your head the names of the ancestor you are looking for. , and keep repeating the name. In the morning look at the paper, and if theres a scripple you know the ancestor has been trying to help you. Next Step;- Sit in a quiet room and say place.....and note down the first place that you hear in your head. Then start looking in that place. ( works best for females as we are more um wierder)
