Hi Heather, thanks for reply. I presumed it was some sort of electroll roll and was getting excited, know about 1837 etc just did not recognise it as being called civil reg. What a dope, you'd think that after being on this board for 2 years I would know better. Regards |

Hi Jeanie, it is the record of births, marriages and deaths since 1837 when registration was first introduced. If you look at the home page you will find a link for useful sites for beginners. Birth, Marriage and Deaths certificates are essential in searching your family tree to find the links between generations. That is birth certs will give parents names, Marriage certs bride, groom and fathers' names and occupations plus addresses and witness names and death certs the name, cause, address of death and the informer. On the list you can look for your ancestor and get a reference for the certificate. You can then buy the certificate (most of us do it on line at the GRO online site for £7. Do not pay any more than that on any other site! |
