Confusion on dates and names

I have found some confusion with the names on my grandfather's birth. His name was Alfred yet I do not find any Alfred on the census report of his family for the appropriate year. I find a Benjamin (his father's name) of about the same birthdate. I never heard my mother mention that her father's name was anything other than Alf and he named his own son the same name. It seems to be a true match family otherwise. If he is indeed Benjamin he would have been a father at a very young age (17). Has anyone else had similar problems and how did you find out if you actually had the right information please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Margaret. |

To Kay I actually got the information from the birth register for Sept. 1896 by using the parents names, but now I don't know where I got that link. It does pay to write all your contacts and resources down as someone on here suggested recently. (I will in future). Alfred (or Benjamin???) married a Jane (aka Jennie) Edwards in c. 1909 (ish) probably at St. Clement Danes The Strand, but I can find no mention of him or his household anywhere in London then or since. They had three children, Alfred, Winifred (my mother)and a baby daughter who died ( name unknown at present. ) He died in c. 1954. That's all I have, and no living rellies to ask. Margaret. |

Hi Bernice I feel as if I am cheating as you have looked up things for me on your own posting (re Sarah Jane Wright). I don't want to over burden you. I will gladly join one of the fee based services (I do not live in UK any more) but need to get some closer info before I do. All my relations seem to have had very common names, I could be downloading forever. Thanks for your reply. Rgds Margaret. |

Alfred could be with his grandparents or other family members on census night. Have you searched for him as grandson, nephew, visitor, etc. I found one of mine this way Beth :) |
