Thank you for that Joy - I saw it and copied it - a good lot of sites to investigate, though I think as is usual with my loot he was probably just passing through , as I can find no more references to him anywhere as yet! Janet , sorry our messages crossed! Is there somewhere I can send to to get the entry? Alice

I cannot find an online archive for the paper - any advice on how to get the original entry? Thanks Alice

Alice, The Cork Examiner is one of the major newspapers in Ireland and as you would expect deals a lot with Cork matters. There are also many death details in this paper and it looks to me that you have a death date in 1865-6-16 which translated into English would read 16 June 1865 as his death date and probably reported in the Cork Examiner by the sounds of it. You are very lucky if that is the case! Try this Cork website which is very good for Cork ancestors: http(://)homepage(.)eircom(.)net(/~)ridgway I see it is under reconstruction at the moment but if you key in Cork Examiner then you may strike lucky with the one you want. There are only a few Cork Examiners on there so if you are unlucky then I suggest either a trip to Cork or Dublin to access all the Cork Examiners or maybe a cheaper trip to the Colindale Newspaper Library at Colindale in London where they have all the Irish newspapers as well as the UK ones. If your folk are from Cork then you can wander around this site for all sorts of info. Good Luck. Janet
