Hi Justin, I am posting your reply on here so that other people can see it and help if they can. Reply received from Justin: Hi sam thank you for answering I dont know there mothers name only their fathers name Micheal Whitworth I know they lived on Edenfield Road Rochdale in the late 1960s and early 1970s there father is my husbands uncle and we are trying to locate my husbands father who we think went to australia in the early 70s but can not find him my husband was only two so we thought we would search out his family but nothing so far and am new to all of this. what is gaa????? GRO stands for General Register Office and all births marriages and deaths are listed in the GRO index. They are arranged into years and then into quarters within these years. The names are then listed alphabetically in the quarters. You can search the indexes free at a library or records office. the only way to do it online for the time frame you have will ocst a fortune and if you don't know the mother's name, it won't help you anyway. Do you know the name of the twins? If not, I don't know what else to suggest. Sam |

Was Michael Whitworth married? If he was and the twins were to his wife, then you could look through all the Whitworth births (this would be best at a library as it would be expensive online). If he was not married and the twins were given their mother's name, you would have to have that name for the search. This could be quite a time consuming search, as I would imagine there were quite a lot of births with that name over such a long period of time. Kath. x |

All you can do is search the GRO indexes for Whitworth births in the time period and area that you have. Twins will be registered in the same year/quarter etc and have the same mother's maiden name. The only way to guarantee that these are children of Michael would be to send off for one or both of the certificates and ask that they check the fathers name. Sam x |
