Hi Pamela Ancestry has a lot more - all the census info for 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. PLus loads of other databases. I think the subscription is worth it for the census info. Hope this helps...P |

Thanks Helen. Does that mean that Ancestry is a waste of money if you can get the info from FreeBMD? Or does it have something else that FreeBMD doesn't? Sorry to ask so many stupid questions, but I'm fairly new to this! Pam |

Yes, I'm afraid you won't get much between 1910 and 1980something as Ancestry get their bmds from Freebmd. If you look in the bar at the top of your screen you will actually see the words 'freebmd' in the address string. :-( but at least you aren't doing anything wrong! nell |

Hi Pamela I think that Ancestry only covers Birth, Marriage and Death Records for the following years. 1837 - 1911 1983 - 2002 So I am not sure you will find it on there. Sorry - I may be wrong ... P |

Thanks Katarzyna. I'm looking for the date of death for Aneurin Phillips, b.1917, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan. I did find someone of the same name and birthdate who died in Pontypool in 1994, but it's not the person I'm looking for. My Aneurin died sometime between 1965 and 1980 (a bit vague, I know, but it's all the best I can do)! I'm fairly certain he was still in Glamorgan when he died. If you come up with anything I'd be very grateful. Pam |

Hi Pamela Ancestry has two main search tools - one that is an exact match (blue coloured windows) and the other that is a 'best match' (kinda off yellow colour windows) - make sure you have clicked on the Exact Match section first. Hope this helps ... P |

Just paid for a pay-per-view subscription to Ancestry and I'm getting nowhere! Typed in full name, county and date of birth, and it's brought up everyone - in every county and with any and every forename - with the surname Phillips, except the person I'm looking for! In fact I didn't come across one single Phillips from my family, despite the fact that there were quite a lot of them. Am I doing something wrong? |
